The City of Oneonta was established on February 18th, 1891 and was officially incorporated April 4th, 1939. The local government is compiled of an elected Mayor and five elected Council Persons. Day-to-day operations are handled by an appointed City Manager.
Serving a retail trade area of 84,481, Oneonta has the largest and most active business center in Blount County.
The City of Oneonta is proud to offer its own city school system consisting of an elementary, middle and high school. In addition, Oneonta is home to a newly established Wallace State Community College campus offering higher education opportunities, including dual enrollment.
