Economic Development

The City of Oneonta was established on February 18th, 1891 and was officially incorporated April 4th, 1939. The local government is compiled of an elected Mayor and five elected Council Persons.

Serving a retail trade area of 84,481, Oneonta has the largest and most active business center in Blount County.

The City of Oneonta is proud to offer its own city school system consisting of an elementary, middle and high school. In addition, Oneonta is home to a newly established Wallace State Community College campus offering higher education opportunities, including dual enrollment.

     Jefferson State Community College

     Snead State Community College

     Wallace State Community College, Hanceville

     Gadsden State Community College

     The University of Alabama at Birmingham

Staffed with a 24 hour Police and Fire Department, Oneonta prides itself on offering top-quality first responder services. We also have a local hospital, St. Vincent's Blount, with a 24-hour emergency room.

Our municipality offers water, natural gas, sewer and garbage services. Electricity is provided by Alabama Power and residents may choose between Otelco, Blount Broadband and Sardis Telecom for local data/communications.

Oneonta is home to a number of public green spaces and recreational centers.

Oneonta offers an industrial park prepped for development. Located just off of State Highway 75, our industrial park offers a central location to service a variety of industrial needs.
