Mayor Darryl Ray was born and raised in Blount County, Alabama. He was born at the old Ray homestead in Wynnville Community approximately 12 miles North of Oneonta and moved to Oneonta on Thanksgiving Day of 1954. Since then he has married Martha Ray and they raised their three children Donny, Anna and Todd in Oneonta. He is very proud of the fact that all of his children were born and raised here and all were educated in the Oneonta City School System. Mayor Ray believes “There is not a better place to live and raise your family than Oneonta and Blount County due to the wholesome environment that we are blessed with.”

Mayor Ray served as a City Councilman and Police Commissioner for four years prior to being elected the mayor of the City of Oneonta. He also worked for Liberty National Life Insurance as an agent, sales manager, district manager, and consultant serving Oneonta and Blount County for thirty-nine years before retiring in 2008. He has been a member of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church for fifty years and is serving as a Deacon.
